The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), has deployed substantial numbers of its operatives to protect and safeguard critical National assets in the state.
This is coming against the proposed Mass Nationwide protest against hunger and hardship the citizens are subjected to under the leadership of Ahmed Bola Tinubu administration.
Some yet- to-be identified groups have planned a mass protest tagged “End Bad Governance” .
The NSCDC, through the state Commandant Mr Joachim Okafor has said the Corps will not take any chance to safeguard and protect the Critical National assets spread across the state.
Addressing Journalists at a news briefing in his office in Minna, Tuesday, Mr Joachim disclosed that in line with the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Audi Ahmed Abubakar, directing all state and Zonal commands of the Corp to intensify and ensure the security of their respective states and zonal commands.
He explained that the Command has already deployed its tactical squad to some critical National installations in Shiroro hydroelectric station, Kainji,and Jebba dams to ensure the protection and safety of ” these critical National installations in Niger State”
According, to the state Commandant, even though some groups in Niger State have distanced themselves from the proposed Mass Nationwide protest “but we on our own part we have a duty to protect the national assets in Niger State.we don’t want to be taken unaware by some disgruntled elements among the protesters”
Explaining that the state Command of the NSCDC has the mandate of the Commandant General Dr. Audi Ahmed Abubakar to beef up and intensify patrol across the National installations in their respective Command the Niger State command will not take any chance.
” As you are aware, in Niger State we housed three critical National installations in Shiroro hydroelectric station Kainji and Jebba dams.
” With these National assets in the state, we don’t want to be taken by surprise by the protesters even though some groups have already distanced themselves from participating in the protest” he stated.
Mr Joachim Okafor however, appealed to his men to exhibit a high level of professionalism in accordance with the best global practice in carrying out their duty warning that he will not condone any act of uncivil in the discharge of their duty.
He also pleaded with the youths to guide against any act that will be inimical to the mass protest “as the the command will not fold its hands to watch some disgruntled elements engage in any Criminal activities”
