There were chains of reactions from some staff of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), following the retirement from service of the director of administration in the council, Alhaji Attahiru Y. Ibrahim.
Our reporter gathered that Attahiru has reached compulsory retirement period from the civil service, having put in 35 years in service.
A senior civil servant in the council who spoke under condition of anonymity wished the “powerful” director of administration well in his future endeavours.
He, however, alleged that there were strong rumours that the director was seriously engaged in subterranean moves to prolong his stay in office against the provisions of the Public Service Rules and the Nigerian Constitution.
According to him, “Others before him left without what we are hearing. That he has been seeing some people from Area 11 to make him continue even though he has reached mandatory retirement age.
“By right, he (Attahiru) is supposed to go with 2023. He should not be seen in the from by start of work in 2024.
“But let’s wait and see if the rumours are anything to go by, because we even understand that he’s also enlisting the help of NULGE to sit tight in the office.
“I do not really know what he still wants, because he has overstayed and should quietly leave the office”, he queried.

Asked who would likely take over from Attahiru, the source said: “The current Head of Department of Education, of course. That is Sherrif Ibrahim.”
