Reps to probe Team Nigeria’s performance at Paris Olympics Games

The House of Representatives has disclosed that it would probe the disastrous outing of Team Nigeria at the just  concluded Paris 2024 Olympics Games to forestall future occurrences.

Recall that Nigeria returned from the games without winning a single medal, despite the huge financial support from the federal government for the training and preparation of athletes

The House expressed worry that none of the 82 athletes who represented the country,  returned with a medal.

The lawmakers decried the huge budget of over ₦12bn for the event which yielded nothing.

The House also urged President Bola Tinubu to establish a commission of enquiry on sports arbitration in Nigeria

Team Nigeria was confronted with several scandals at the games, including the non registration of one of the country’s medal hopeful, zFa our Ofili from the women 100m race, as well as the shameful incident of borrowing a bicycle from the  Cycle Federation of Germany by their Nigerian counterparts for a cyclist’s use to participate in games

The Ministry of Sports has however inaugurated a committee to investigate the reported incidents that smeared the country’s reputation at the games
