The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals on Tuesday donated 19,200 copies of the SDGs study edition, 10,000 face masks and 100-bed equipment for distribution to public schools in Niger.
Alhaji Ghali Abdulkadir, Zonal Desk Officer, North Central Zone OSSAP, SDGs, disclosed this at the presentation of the items held at the SDGs office in Minna.
Abdulkadir said that the textbook edition was designed to communicate the SDGs in public schools, noting that the time had come to share the dreams of the SDGs with citizens, especially school-age children.
He said that the 2030 agenda for SDGs was adopted by all World Nations on Sept. 25, 2015, at the UN headquarters, New York.
Abdulkadir explained that the books would summarise the main objectives of the goal in pupil’s friendly language with a resolution on people planet, prosperity, peace and partnership.
“We are working to spread the knowledge of the Goals so that all of us can catch the vision of a better future and do all we can to make the vision a reality,” he said.
The Director-General, Niger State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Abdullahi Arah, commended the efforts of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals for the donation of the equipments.
He said that the 17 SDGs and the 169 targets which we are announcing today demonstrated the scale and ambition of this new universal agenda.
He said that the Goals and targets would stimulate action over the next fifteen years in the areas of critical importance and would go along way in promoting health and education in the state.
Hajiya Hannatu Jibril, Commissioner of Education, Niger, commended the efforts of the SDGs for the donation and promised judicious distribution of the items to all public schools in the state.
