Security operatives recover 222 rustled cows, 58 sheep in Taraba

Security operatives in Taraba State have recovered 222 rustled cows and 58 sheep in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The recovered cows and the sheep, earlier handed over to the Taraba State Committee on Cows/Sheep Recovery, by the security operatives at Gassol LGA where they were intercepted, were on Tuesday, released to the rightful owners after rigorous and diligent confirmation strategies by the committee

Addressing Journalists at the handing over ceremony of the cows to the rightful owners at the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Jalingo, the chairman, Taraba State Cows/Sheep Recovery Committee and ALGON chairman, Jalingo LGA, Hon Jauro Hassan, said the cows were moved from the axis of Karim Lamido, plateau and Nasarawa and were intercepted in Gassol LGA, Taraba State

He lauded the collaborative efforts of security agencies, stressing that it was their relentless, coordinated, and intelligent efforts that led to the recovery of the cows and the sheep

The chairman disclosed that after rigorous interviews and screening of over 52 groups, the Cow Recovery Committee discovered that the cows belong to different groups of herdsmen.

“We finally arrived at the conclusion that some of the cows belonged to two different groups. The first group owns a total of 190 cows, while the second group owns only two, which are still subject to contention.

“The committee had decided to step down 24 cows and released 198 cows to these perceived owners that are identified after the rigorous screening because their description, depiction and marks ascribed on the cows showed they are the real owners”. He stated.

 

He said several persons had been arrested in connection with the matter and assured the general public that the committee would continue to give publicity in respect to the remaining cows so that other herders would also come for proper identification and collection of their lost cows

In his remark, the chairman, Miyeti Allah, Taraba State, Alh Yau Ibrahim commended the efforts of security agencies and lauded the governor of Taraba State Dr Agbu Kefas for all his peaceful moves in the state, pledging that his association would continue to give him maximum support to succeed.
