Senegalese President Bassirou Faye sworn in 

Bassirou Diomaye Faye became the fifth president of Senegal after he was sworn into office,

Faye, 44, is elected as Senegal’s youngest president.

He succeeded Macky Sall on Tuesday, April 2, in the new town of Diamniadio, which is close to Dakar, in front of African leaders.

In front of the assembled officials, Faye declared, “Before God and the Senegalese nation, I swear to faithfully fulfil the office of President of the Republic of Senegal.”

In addition, he pledged to protect “the integrity of the territory and national independence, and to spare no effort to achieve African unity,” as well as to “scrupulously observe the provisions of the Constitution and the laws.”
