SUMMARY OF SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT ON LGA AUTONOMY SUIT.

The Supreme Court rules….

1. Allocations are to be paid directly to Local Government Councils immediately.

2. The Section of the Constitution for joint state/local government account automatically got deleted without NASS Amendment .

3. Appointment of Caretaker committees is illegal and unconstitutional. No governor has any power to appoint caretaker committee to run the affairs of local government.

4. Only 774 Local Government Areas are recognized by the Constitution.

5.No House of Assembly of any state has the power to make laws that could, in any manner, interfere with monies meant for the LGAs..
