The Supreme Court has deferred ruling in the appeal filed by Sadique Abubakar, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) nominee for governor of Bauchi State, challenging the election of Governor Bala Mohammed.
Abubakar petitioned the supreme court following the Appeal Court, Abuja Division’s decision to uphold Governor Mohammed’s victory in the March 18 governorship election.
Sadeeq Abubakar and his party are requesting that the Apex Court declare him the election winner and revoke the recent ruling by the Appeal Court upholding Bala Mohammed’s victory.
Leading Counsel for the APC and Its Candidate contended during his brief presentation before the court that the appellate court disregarded
certain basic concerns brought forth by his client, such as purported electoral act violations during the procedures.
Lead counsel for the respondents, Chris Uche SAN, argued that the verdict was consistent with sections 148 and 135 of the electoral act and requested the Apex Court to maintain the appeal court’s ruling.
Following their consideration of the attorneys’ statements, the five-member panel, chaired by Justice John Inyang Okoro, declared that all parties involved would be notified in due course of the judgment date.
