Members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT chapter as part of mourning their late colleague, Olusegun Ogunjimi, who passed away early last month have agreed to engage the Football Coaches Association, Abuja Chapter, in a friendly football match.
The Chairman of SWAN FCT, Comrade Ndubueze Chidoka, said the encounter would take place on Thursday, March 4, 2021, two days before the remains of Ogunjimi would be committed to mother earth. Chidoka said there was no other better way to honour Ogunjimi than organizing a tribute football match with the football coaches in Abuja, adding that the deceased was a seasoned sports writer whose love for football could not be overemphasized. He stated that the game would be played at the Area 3 playground, Abuja starting from 3pm.
He also said that there would be a tribute night on Wednesday, March 3 at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT council secretariat, Utako from 5pm. “After the tribute night at the NUJ FCT council on Wednesday and the tribute match on Thursday on Friday, March 5, a wake will be held at his compound in Mararaba, on the outskirts of Abuja, before he would be laid to rest on March 6 at the Gudu Cemetery in Abuja. Ogunjimi died on February 10 and was an employee of the Nation Newspaper.
