Teledensity, the number of telephone connections for every 100 individuals living within an area has contracted for the second month in a row in Nigeria.
Data tracked on the website of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) showed that in the month of December 2020, the teledensity was 107.18 per cent, a reduction of 1.74 per cent from the month of November of the same year which was 108.92 per cent.
Before now, the telecommunications industry has grown steadily. Contractions in teledensity are related to a reduction in the number of mobile connections. From over 207 million subscriptions in November, 2020, the December subscriptions dropped to 204 million, a sharp reduction of 3 million. The commission is yet to speak on these contractions that have remained constant.
