Tension in Osun community as bandits write houses, schools, threaten to attack

There was palpable tension in Ofatedo community area of Osun State on Friday as some suspected bandits allegedly threaten to attack schools in the area.

According to information gathered by our Correspondent, letters were seen pasted on the school walls informing that they will attack and kidnap students and pupils of schools in the area.

Residents of the area were seeing running helter-skelter to go and withdraw their pupils from the schools as some schools managements also called on parents to do so.

As of the time of filing this report, many schools in Ofatedo, Bolanle and other areas have been shut while calmness has returned.

It would be recalled that residents of the community recently saw letters threatening to attack the community by some robbers. The writers of the letter demanded that a sum of N20m be contributed and given to their community leader.

Responding to the security situation in Ofatedo, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Mr Ismail Omipidan assured residents of the state of top security, stating that the area remains calm and no invasion by Fulani herdsmen will occur.

Omipidan said, “The Police, Amotekun corps, Department of State Security, Vigilante Group of Nigeria and Hunters Group of Nigeria are on their toes. People should go about their normal activities without fear.
“The Government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the security of lives and property of our people”.

In the same vein, the Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress, OPC, in the state, Chief Leke Akintayo Olojongbodu has assured residents of Ofatedo community and entire people of the state not to be panic as some measures have been put in place by the OPC to ensure adequate security.

Olojongbodu who condemned the threat by the robbers through their letter written some days back to Ofatedo community reiterated the readiness of the OPC to avert such an attack by the robbers.

“We are battle-ready in collaboration with other security personnel to protect property and live in the state while we are assuring the residents not to be panic” Olojongbodu added.
