The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has received congratulations from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for winning the polls.
According to Naija News, after defeating other candidates, Senator Okpebholo was proclaimed the victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.
Seventeen people ran for the exalted seat at the Dennis Osadebay House in Benin City during the off-cycle election.
4,519 polling places were used for the governorship election throughout Edo State’s 18 local government districts.
Tinubu praised the governors of the APC, Edo State leaders, and the party’s national leaders for their tireless efforts in securing victory in a statement released on Sunday by the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to him, the triumph demonstrated the public’s backing for the ruling party’s progressive principles, economic reengineering plan, and dedication to enhancing Nigerians’ quality of life.
The president advised Senator Okpebholo to view his win as a difficult call to duty rather than as cause for celebration.
In order to secure Edo State’s growth, he urged the incoming governor to show generosity by interacting with his political opponents and bringing the state’s citizens together.
According to Tinubu, peaceful political contests like the one on Saturday present Nigeria as a stable democracy. He also commended other candidates who took part in the election for their contributions to furthering Nigeria’s democracy.
The President encouraged everyone who felt wronged by the results of the election to pursue legal recourse.
Furthermore, Tinubu praised the citizens of Edo State for their calm and orderly behavior throughout the election, highlighting how Nigeria’s democracy has developed after 25 years.
“I applaud INEC and our security agencies for their tireless efforts to ensure a smooth, peaceful, and successful exercise that went off without a hitch in most cases.
According to Tinubu, “INEC has once again shown that it is committed to arranging a free and fair election in our nation.”
