According to President Bola Tinubu, maintaining peace and stability in Nigeria is the shared duty of the federal and subnational administrations.
Speaking yesterday at his Lagos villa during a meeting with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the President reaffirmed his condemnation of the most recent deaths in Plateau State in a statement sent by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale.
In a speech to the governors, the president gave security services strict instructions to stop the violence in Plateau State and step up their hunt for individuals behind the recent terrible incidents in Barkin-Ladi and Bokkos Local Government Areas.
President Tinubu expressed his condolences to the victims, emphasized the value of human life, urged people who hold opposing views to change their ways of thinking, and warned them of the unavoidable repercussions of their acts.
“For Nigeria to advance, there must be peace and stability. Nigeria is our collective responsibility, and we must take care of it,” he declared.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State was present at the meeting, and President Tinubu praised him for his attempts to find a peaceful solution to the political problems facing the state.
“I appreciate your statesmanship. I heard you stressing peace in your broadcast. Effective governance can only flourish in a peaceful environment, and under my direction, governance has officially started,” the speaker stated.
The President told the governors that he had reviewed some parts of the Appropriations Bill earlier in the day with Mr. Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, and Sen. Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, regarding the 2024 Budget proposals before the National Assembly.
He underlined that in order to promote rapid infrastructure development across the country, the federal and subnational governments must share responsibility and work together more closely.
“I want to do away with road categories on a federal, state, or rural level. Development must be seen as a shared duty. Let’s put our kids first. The school feeding program needs to be revived as soon as possible, starting with the local government and moving up to the state and federal levels.
The President resolutely declared, “We must be ready to protect our children and prepare them for the future.”
Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, showed support for the Plateau State government and people.
“May God grant peace to Plateau State and comfort the spirits of the departed. We support you, Governor of Plateau State; continue to be strong, the NGF Chairman remarked.
Governor Abdulrazaq reiterated the backing of state governments for the audacious choices and changes that President Tinubu’s administration has begun.
“These are difficult times. It’s definitely not a piece of cake. The states’ economies were significantly impacted structurally when gasoline subsidies were eliminated. However, we are sure that we can overcome these obstacles.
