Jack Dorsey, Twitter chief executive officer, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO and Sundar Pichai Alphabet Inc (Google) CEO will appear in a hearing titled “Does Section 230’s Sweeping Immunity Enable Big Tech Bad Behaviour?” at 10 am (3 pm Nigerian time) on Wednesday.
This was made known in a statement made available to the public through the office of the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
The hearing which is convened by U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, chairman of the committee, is to examine legislative proposals, to modernise the decades-old law, increase transparency and accountability among big technology companies for their content moderation practices and to explore the impact of large ad-tech platforms on local journalism and consumer privacy. It will provide an opportunity to discuss the unintended consequences of Section 230’s liability shield and how best to preserve the internet as a forum for open discourse.
Not all the witnesses will participate remotely and a live video will be made available on the committee’s website www.commerce.senate.gov.
