Two Confirmed Killed As Wike Orders Arrest of Collapsed Abuja Building’s Owner

At least, two persons have been confirmed dead, three still trapped and 37 others rescued when a building collapsed on popular Lagos Street in the Garki Village area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Spokesperson for the the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Nkechi Isa, who confirmed the incident early Thursday, said rescue efforts are ongoing.

She disclosed that search for more victims has been intensified at the scene of the incident.

“A combined team of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps,(FRSC), FCT Police Command, and the VIO are on the ground to carry out the rescue efforts

“The two-storey building which serves both residential and commercial purposes collapsed on Wednesday night. 37 persons were rescued alive, while 2 others were fatally injured,” she said.

Already, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike had visited the area as efforts are intensified to rescue the trapped persons.

The minister while at the scene of the tragic incident ordered identification and arrest of owner of the building.

New National Star earlier reported that the unconfirmed number of persons died while others were trapped in the building which collapsed after heavy downpour in Abuja, Wednesday night.

Last month, a four-storey building collapsed in the Life Camp area of the city with many wounded. It happened while workers were on the construction site in the Dape Area near the Berger Clinic.
