In his dogged effort to revamp and update social infrastructure in the state, Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi yesterday performed the groundbreaking cum foundation ceremony of the Enugu State House of Assembly administrative complex on the state assembly premises.
The two-winged complex has 3500 seating capacity and is sited on an expansive3500 square metres space behind the legislative building at INDEPENDENCE layout ENUGU with two large courtyards for recreational activities.
It has in addition 29 offices for the Assemblymen and others for their support staff and is intended to accommodate all members of staff of the state legislature.
Performing the foundation laying, the governor paid glowing tribute to the assemblymen and the Speaker for their support and synergy that has helped in executing government objectives declaring that”I would not have wished for a better Assembly”
The governor stated that the Assembly plays a critical role in governance through lawmaking, policy formulation and general input in governance pointing out that the project was in line with his government’s policy of capacity building in all the three arms of government
He recalled the recent transformation and rehabilitation of the state judiciary complex and the provision of 34 magistrate court in all the 17 LGAs of the state with each having two apiece and stated that all the structures were of the best global standards.
Earlier, the speaker, Hon Edward Ubosi welcomed the governor and his entourage as well as other persons present to witness the occasion even as he showered the governor with praises for his efforts at renewing the Assembly through the provision of a new and impressive gate, landscaping and aesthetic design works, digitalized communication for the honourable members of the house among many others which are all of the international standards declaring to the delight of his colleagues that the governor”has made the Assembly very conducive”
