UN requests that Gaza immediately halt hostilities.

On Tuesday, the UN called for a humanitarian truce in Gaza.

Additionally, US Vice President Joe Biden forewarned Israel that its “indiscriminate” killing of civilians in the struggle against Hamas terrorists was costing them international support.

The 193-member UN General Assembly supported a resolution requesting a ceasefire after UN authorities gave dire warnings about a deteriorating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, with 153 nations voting in favor and 23 abstaining.
Eight nations voted against the resolution, including the US and Israel, who argue that a truce only helps Hamas.

Although the resolution lacks legal enforceability, its global perspective on the war gives it political weight.

A similar proposal was denied by the US last week in the 15-member Security Council.

The resolution was welcomed by the Palestinian Authority, which also urged other nations to exert pressure on Israel to carry out the truce.

Izzat El-Reshiq, an official for Hamas in exile, reaffirmed this position in a Telegram post, stating that Israel need to “cease its aggression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing against our people.”

Prior to the resolution’s passing, Biden declared that “the majority of the world,” which includes the US and the EU, now supported Israel.
