Valentine’s Day: NGO puts smiles on faces of older persons in IDP camp

The Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons In Nigeria, COSROPIN, has presented food items, beverages and toiletries to older persons in New Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Kuchigoro, Abuja.

The coalition also delivered health talk; engage in exercises, dance and games with the elderly in the IDP Camp.

Speaking with newsmen at the end of the event, the President of COSROPIN, Senator Eze Ajoku said the essence was to put smiles on the faces of older persons in the IDP Camp.

Senator Ajoku who stated that the gesture was in collaboration with Dewdrop Foundation explained that the move was also armed at combating depression among them.

According to him, Valentine’s Day is all about showing love not only to family members, spouses or relatives but also to the less privileged and elderly in the society.

He said COSROPIN has put in place football match and other activities to mark this year’s Valentine’s Day among older persons in the Federal Capital Territory.

 

He, therefore, advised Nigerians, corporate bodies and organizations to emulate COSROPIN by using the period of Valentine in giving the elderly and the needy a sense of belonging in the society towards ensuring a better country.

In a remark, the Head of Administration, Dewdrop Foundation, Vivian Ugwu said the Foundation would continue to collaborate with COSROPIN and other stakeholders towards making life more meaningful to older persons and the less privileged in the society.

She advised older persons in the IDP Camp not to loose hope but continue to pray for a more prosperous Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of Older Persons in New IDP Camp, Kuchigoro Abuja, Mallam Ishaku Abdullahi thanked COSROPIN and Dewdrop Foundation for the gesture.

Mallam Abdullahi appealed to other organizations and well meaning Nigerians to remember people in IDP Camps as they celebrate this year’s Valentine’s Day.
