Vote buying: Party agents resort to yoghurt, juice, zobo

As part of efforts to woo voters support in the ongoing governorship and state assembly election, party agents have resorted to buying voters with yoghurts, soft drinks, juice, coca-cola, zobo and other drinks.

In pulling unit 065 Rugga Market, Karu Local government Area, Nasararwa State, some party agents were observed carrying black polythene bags where they concealed various drinks they give to voters who cast their votes for their political party.

Some agents also gave cooked eggs, meat pie, groundnuts and other drinks to woo voters to support their candidates.

It was observed that women mainly benefitted from the largesse.

The development may be connected with the recent cash scarcity and the news that some operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have been deployed to pulling units to arrest those who induce voters with money.

However the exercise witnessed high degree of voter apathy as many voters stayed away from the exercise following the unsuccessful upload of election results from polling units in the last election.

According to some voters, the electoral officials arrived around 8.am while accreditation and voting took place simultaneously.
