WAEC Fees: Reduce Exams fees to enable the poor have access to education – NSHA

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has tasked the West Africa Examinations Council, WAEC, to consider reducing examination fees to enable the children of the poor to have access to education in the country.

Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Education, Abel Yakubu Bala announced this when the Commissioner for Education Mr. John Mamman appeared before the committee on Monday, for budget defense in Lafia.

Bala Yakubu also challenged the management to go back to the basics of education, saying both internal and external students suffer hence the need for consideration for the review of the money being charged.

Responding, Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman said the ministry needs the support of the committee for additional teachers, acknowledging that the state has a slim number of teachers as a result of retirement and death, he lamented how some students are running from science courses.

Similarly, the Chairman House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hudu Alhaji Hudu has received the management of the Nasarawa State Bureau for Public Procurement led by its Acting Director General, Umar Ali Muhammad.

Hudu challenged them to adhere strictly to guiding principles and ensure due process in the award of contracts, purchase, and execution of government projects.

New National Star reports that the lawmaker told the Acting Director General to ensure transparency and accountability to achieve the core mandate of establishing the Bureau.
