ZLP party holds primary, elects Ugwoji

Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, has concluded its primary election for November 6, 2021, Governorship election in Anambra state.

The election took place today, 28th of June, 2021, at the Choice Hotels, Awka.

It was a peaceful election as only one aspirant, Uche Ugwoji, indicated interest to vie under the party.

The election was done on hand-raising and voice voted by the delegates, where Uche Ugwoji emerged without a counter-voice.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Ugwoji said he would deploy his experience in politics to ensure internal democracy is achieved and project the state to the limelight.

“I will attract developments to Anambra because of my grassroots knowledge of politics. We have every resource to take over the state come November 6, 2021.

“If you employ me as your Chief Servant, I will deploy all the global and national experiences and networks, as well as local knowledge as a village boy to make you proud.

“I am a Pan-Africanist and hope to work with other leaders in the South East and Nigeria to create the next Nigeria that will be the pride of the black race,” Ugwuoji said.

The Chairman Electoral Committee of the ZLP, for the Anambra election, Dr Obiorah Ifoh, described Anambra as a great state that had achieved tremendously.

Dr Ifoh noted that ZLP had cut across the local governments in Anambra state, and had won various political positions in some state.

“The party came as a result of the need to have a different political party that will identify with the yearnings of the people.

“ZLP has gained political strengths from different states and has become among the top five political parties.

“In ZLP, we have our mode of operation based on the stipulations in Sec 87 (6) of Electoral Act, as amended.

“As it stands now, we will adopt any three methods of voting. One is by affirmation, two is by raising of hands and three, by secret ballot.

For the purpose of this election, we will adopt show of hands”.
