In 2023, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) brought in N6,071 billion from passenger and freight transportation as well as other sources of income.
This was revealed in the most recent Rail Transportation Data for Q4 2023 report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
This is a rise of 8.5% over the N5,595,887,662 that was reported in 2022.
NRC transported 2,182,388 people in 2023, generating N4,426,495,760, according to the NBS statistics.
The amount is little less than the N4,546,342,056 that 3,212,948 travelers moved in 2022.
According to the report, NRC’s revenue from shipping 317,244 tonnes of products was N1,079,290,411, which is a substantial amount more than the N441,744,944 it made from moving 157,024 tonnes of goods in 2022.
Similarly, non-passenger and freight transport sources brought in N565,843,550 for NRC in 2023—a little less than N607,800,662 in 2022.
