Falana Denies Speaking with Bobrisky Over Bribery Allegations

Published

Lagos lawyer Femi Falana has refuted claims of any involvement in bribery related to prison arrangements or money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. This denial follows allegations made in a viral video by blogger Martins Otse (also known as VeryDarkMan), which suggested that certain officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) received N15 million from Bobrisky to dismiss the money laundering charge against him.

The video further alleged that Falana sought a presidential pardon for Bobrisky in exchange for N10 million. However, during an appearance on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” monitored by The Nation, Falana firmly dismissed these accusations, stating, “Bobrisky never spoke to me. I have never met him. I do not know him from Adam. He was alleged to have spoken to my son, Folarin (Falz).”

Falana clarified that Bobrisky had approached his son on May 4, requesting N3 million to be placed in a specific part of the prison.

Protesters to Rally at Lagos Assembly Demanding Justice for Mohbad

Published

By Aaior K. Comfort

Nollywood actor and human rights advocate Yomi Fabiyi is spearheading a peaceful protest to seek justice for late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The protest is scheduled for Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Fabiyi announced the demonstration via his Instagram account, emphasizing the need for the Lagos State government to establish a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. He expressed concerns that those responsible for the singer’s demise are attempting to cover up the case and divert attention from the evidence.

“We are confident that the CCTV cameras inside and outside Mohbad’s residence were operational and that recordings were stored remotely,” Fabiyi stated. He criticized the police’s inaction regarding retrieving the footage, describing it as “very frustrating.” He urged citizens to join the protest, maintaining that it should remain orderly and civil.

Mohbad, who passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, left behind a complex legacy, with his death sparking widespread controversy online. Previously signed to Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad departed the label in February 2022. In the aftermath of his death, the Lagos State Police Command established a special investigation team to probe the case.

Following Mohbad’s death, several individuals, including Naira Marley and socialite Balogun Eletu (also known as Sam Larry), were arrested. His body was exhumed for an autopsy on September 21, 2023, although a pathologist later revealed that decomposition had hindered a conclusive determination of the cause of death.

In a related development, a US-based laboratory refuted claims by the Lagos State Government regarding the toxicology tests conducted on Mohbad’s samples. Esther Dede, a Client Services Associate at NMS Labs, clarified that they did not have a case for the patient.

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, provided a document confirming that NMS Labs received postmortem samples from another Pennsylvania-based lab, ITSI Biosciences, which requested the testing of samples identified as belonging to Mohbad.

As the protest approaches, the call for justice grows louder, with many rallying behind Fabiyi’s efforts to ensure that the truth surrounding Mohbad’s death is revealed.
