Speaker of House of Representatives Hon Tajudeen Abass has commended minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chief Nyesom Wike for the ongoing transformation in the nation’s capital.
Abbas, who gave the commendation in Abuja on Monday, during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of Mabushi Bus Terminal, noted that Wike has successfully spearheaded the transformation of Abuja in a very remarkably short period, by completing many strategic roads and infrastructural projects.
The Speaker pointed out that the minister’s commitment and dedication has made the nation’s capital a more modern city with the construction of projects with remarkably speed and efficiency.
He said that he is particularly impressed by Wike’s holistic approach to development which has made Abuja a more modern and dynamo city, noting that even long-time residents of the city are surprised at the rapid development of Abuja.
Abbas added that Wike’s holistic approach to development has gone beyond the city centre of the nation’s capital, to the area councils, thereby enhancing the quality of life for residents.
He maintained that the successes recorded by the FCT minister has justified the decision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to entrust Wike with the responsibility, noting that the minister’s achievements have set a new standard for urban development in Nigeria.
The Speaker said the National Assembly, as the legislature for the FCT, stands ready to support the minister by coming up with favourable legislations and ensuring adequate funding, as well as providing oversight to ensure that projects are completed on time and to the highest standard.
Speaking earlier, FCT minister Chief Nyesom Wike frowned that a city like Abuja does not have bus terminals, noting that it is part of insecurity challenge facing the territory.
Wike stated that Abuja is supposed to be a first class city, noting, however, that Abuja cannot be one of the best cities in the world when those infrastructure, such as bus terminals, are not available.
The minister disclosed that funds for the project have been made available, adding that he would personally be involved in monitoring and supervision of the project, which he said is very key to the administration.
He noted that the project would create more jobs in the area, just as he appealed to residents of Mabushi community to support the company handling the project so that they can achieve success within the time frame they have been given.
