The Government of Abia state has said that they are proud with Caritas Nigeria partnership with the state in the fight of Human lmmunodeficiency Virus (HIV) scorge in Abia state.
The commissioner of Health Abia state,Dr.Joe Osuji made this known on Thursday while presenting a paper during the Caritas lunch of Access gate programme at Royal Damgrete Hotel Umuahia.
The commissioner said that HIV has continued to be a major public Health issue all over the world,more especially in Sub- Saharan African and other developing countries and thanked Caritas Nigeria for helping the state achieve a huge success in the fight against HIV.
“I am pleased to said that Catholic Caritas foundation of Nigeria (CCFGN),has done excellently well within 14 months in the state.
They have achieved treatment current (Tx CURR) of 48,288, which is 82.8 percent treatment saturation with 71 percent viral head coverage and 98 percent suppression rate.”
He said that in collaboration with Caritas Nigeria, Abia state government has esterblished a functional logistic management commodity unit to manage commodity distribution and established a maintain functional Central medical store in the state.
He called for more collaboration with Caritas Nigeria and the state as enshrined in the tripartite agreement.
In his welcome address the, Executive Director, Caritas Nigeria Rev.fr. (Dr) Uchechukwu Obodoechina, said that the organization has been working for God and humanity in collaboration and support of the government of America and challenged leaders in Nigeria at various levels to work for the people.
He assured that with the launching of the Access project by Caritas Nigeria,it will provide a sustained stratage implimentation of the organizations goals.
The Access project emphasized on sustain free test of people with HIV, provision of Anti – retroviral drugs, more enlightenment campaign, training of more Health care officials and more medical outreach into rural communities in Abia state.
