To reduce the teacher-to-student ratio imbalance in junior and senior secondary schools throughout the state, the Bauchi State Government has authorized the hiring of 3,000 additional teachers.
Malam Ali Gar, the project coordinator for the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, or AGILE, revealed this to stakeholders in the Bauchi Local Government on Thursday at a sensitization meeting about the Girls Scholarship Program.
According to him, 1,000 instructors will work in senior secondary schools and 2,000 teachers would be sent to junior secondary schools.
He asserts that hiring is a crucial step in meeting the requirements for the state’s AGILE project implementation.
“The state government, not the AGILE project, will pay the teachers. To guarantee the highest level of participation, they will be chosen from communities that stand to gain.
Within two weeks, the AGILE project will start providing Conditional Cash Transfers to 9,000 chosen clients in addition to hiring teachers.
According to the Project Coordinator, the program offers a N15,000 registration fee and a N20,000 stipend for the first term. If participants maintain a minimum attendance rate of 75%, they will also get N10,000 for the second and third terms.
ICT resources and technologies for skill development have already been acquired for the project, according to Gar. Only 9,000 of the 20,250 beneficiaries who were intended have been enrolled in the last ten weeks, nevertheless.
He asked all involved to keep an eye on school operations to make sure teachers are carrying out their duties efficiently.
Alhaji Mahmood Babama’aji, the Executive Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, praised the AGILE team’s work and conveyed faith in the School-Based Management Committees’ capacity to fulfill their mandate.
