Tony Okafor, Awka
A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has said the All Progressives Congress government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has reduced Nigeria to a beggar nation.
Mohammed stated this at the weekend in Awka, Anambra State, when he visited the state to solicit the support of PDP delegates from the state for his presidential bid.
He assured them that if elected president of Nigeria, he would redeem the image of Nigeria and reposition it to once again become the giant of Africa.
Mohammed said, “Nigeria is currently indebted to China and other countries of the world. Nigeria is taking so much loans and the loans are not deployed to the benefit of Nigerians across the country.
” States and Federal Government are struggling with poorer nations to get aid and grants from America and the rest of the world. The current status is not the profile of Nigeria that was handed over to the present day Nigerians by the first republic politicians.
“Nigeria used to be the big brother of the African continent. Nigeria secured independence for Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa. Nigeria took care of the needs of her neighbours and was respected and regarded globally as the number one investment destination in Africa.
” Currently, attention has been shifted to Ghana because the world has lost trust in Nigeria and Nigerians. We are divided and the division is as a result of maladministration, injustice, insecurity, nepotism and exclusion.”
Mohammed said he would want to be the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to address the factors militating against the progress and development of the country.
He said he had benefitted from all sections of Nigeria by virtue of his career progression, stressing that he believed strongly that his reign as president would restore Nigeria to the dream of the founding fathers.
Speaking, a member of the National Executive Working Committee of the PDP, Chief Okay Muo-Aroh concurred that APC had destroyed Nigeria.
He said, “There is no need to run away from the truth that Nigeria is now the poverty capital of the world and that only PDP can rebuild the country.”
