Chaos In Brazil As Mass Brawl Triggers 53 Red Cards

A Brazilian Under-20 football match has reportedly set a world record after referees issued 53 red cards following a mass brawl involving players, coaches and club officials.

The chaotic incident occurred during the semi-final first leg of the Minas Gerais Under-20 Championship between Uberlandia and Mamore, resulting in the dismissal of 43 players, eight coaching staff members and two Uberlandia board officials.

The previous record was 36 red cards, recorded during a fifth-division encounter between Argentine clubs Club Atletico Claypole and Victoriano Arenas in 2011.

According to Brazilian media outlet O Tempo, the violence erupted in the second half after Mamore player Davi celebrated his team’s 3-1 advantage by taunting the opposition bench.

Uberlandia goalkeeping coach Paulo Sergio Dias Dos Santos reportedly ran onto the pitch to confront the player, triggering widespread clashes between both teams.
Three players had already been sent off before the incident escalated.

The confrontation also caused extensive damage to Parque do Sabia Stadium, prompting the involvement of military police. Reports listed 14 broken doors, damaged shower facilities, shattered windows and destroyed benches, tables and chairs.

Referee Fernando Patrick Drosghic Modesto eventually abandoned the encounter after a 40-minute interruption, citing security concerns and the inability to complete the dismissal procedures.

Following the incident, Uberlandia announced that it would concede the second leg, describing the decision as a gesture of fair play because Mamore had only seven available players due to the suspensions.

The club also confirmed that internal disciplinary measures had been taken against those involved, adding that sporting development must go hand in hand with personal responsibility.
