Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has dedicated a multipurpose hospital constructed by the Federal Government under the Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, at Obeaja, Ugwunagbo Local Government Area.
The 100-bed hospital was begun under the government of former President Muhammadu Buhari and finished under President Bola Tinubu’s current administration.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu during the project’s commissioning for finishing the hospital and turning it into a multipurpose facility to serve the medical requirements of the general public.
He pledged that the Abia State government would take over the administration of the new hospital, stating that more space for the construction of doctor’s quarters, round-the-clock security, and a facilities management staff would be required.
Otti pledged that maternal mortality would continue to decline in the state, expressing happiness that the rate of maternal death in Abia State has significantly decreased to 136 at present, from 1047 in 2020 and 531 in 2022, as revealed by the Special Assistant to the President on SDGs.
He bemoaned the fact that Nigerians yearly spend between $1.6 billion and $2 billion on medical tourism, but vowed to halt the trend by having his administration construct a medical village.
