FG Set To Improve Terrible Reproductive Health Care Conditions

The federal government is set to launch a coordinated platform of stakeholders in reproductive health care. The platform which will be launched on Monday, October 12 is called Nigeria Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child Adolescent and Elderly Health Plus Nutrition (RMNCAEH+N) Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Coordination Platform. The platform seeks to monitor and improve child survival rates and safe motherhood in the country.

Dr. Ehanire Osagie, Minister of Health, explained that the vision of the platform was to utilise the strengths of the stakeholders and provide opportunities to leverage on available resources.

“The vision for this multi-stakeholder coordination platform is to harness the relative strengths of the diverse stakeholders and create opportunities to leverage resources to maximize outcomes for the attainment of our shared vision for Nigerians, particularly the vulnerable population,” he said.

He stressed the importance of investment in the wellbeing of women, children, adolescent and the elderly while lamenting the high rate of maternal and neonatal mortality in the country.

“Investment in the health and wellbeing of women, children, adolescent and the elderly is worthwhile and will support the overall socio-economic development of our dear country since the health indices of a country relate with the health of women & children. Our health indices are unacceptably poor, with a Maternal mortality ratio of 512 per 1000 live births, under-five mortality rate of 132 per 1000 live births and neonatal mortality rate of 39 per 1000 livebirths.”

In a recent press release by the World Health Organisation, there was reported 1 stillbirth in every 16 seconds and countries most affected were low and lower-middle-income countries located in sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia.
