Yoruba actress Habibat Jinad has opened up about her experience with skin bleaching, stating that the challenges she faced during the process influenced her decision to quit.
The actress shared photographs and video clips documenting her journey Wednesday on social media, saying she had learned to embrace her natural complexion and appreciate her skin.
Jinad said that she was sharing her experience not to attract attention or sympathy, but to encourage people struggling to break away from habits they no longer feel comfortable with.
“The pains behind my bleaching journey. I don’t just post these things here – I’ve been through them. This is one of the reasons I decided to stop bleaching my skin,” she wrote.
“I’ve learned to embrace my natural skin, and honestly, black is beautiful.”
The actress said her experience had taught her the importance of making a firm decision when seeking to change a habit that is no longer beneficial.
She encouraged people facing similar struggles to take the first step towards change, acknowledging that doing so may not always be easy.
“Whatever it is you feel is not good for you, you can stop. It may not be easy, but you can do it,” she said.
Jinad said she made a personal decision to stop bleaching and remained committed to it, adding that the decision had brought her a sense of peace.
She further urged her followers not to give up on themselves, encouraging them to seek strength and remain determined when attempting to make positive changes in their lives.
“If you truly want to change, make up your mind and take that first step. Almighty God will surely give you the strength to start a new life,” she added.
