Police open investigation into death of popular Abuja crossdresser, Area Mama

The Nigerian Police have launched an investigation into the death of a well-known Abuja crossdresser, popularly referred to as ‘Abuja Area Mama.’

The tragic news was confirmed on Thursday morning through a statement released by Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.

The body of the self-proclaimed gay personality was discovered on Thursday morning, abandoned at a public location along the Katampe-Mabushi expressway in Abuja.

The deceased was subsequently confirmed dead by medical personnel at the Maitama District Hospital.

The police statement provided details of the incident: “In response to a distress call received by the Command Control Room on 08/08/2024 at about 07:40 AM, that an unidentified lady was seen lying motionless along Katampe-Mabushi expressway, a team of detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene.”

Further investigations revealed that the deceased was a man dressed in female clothing, with no identification found on him.

The body was transported to the Maitama District Hospital, where doctors confirmed the death.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth C. Igweh, has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

The police have assured the public that updates on the case will be provided as the investigation progresses.
