Thousands of residents of Uburu and other communities in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have turned out to welcome the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, commending his contributions to national development and pledging support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
According to a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday by Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Works on Media, residents from various communities across Uburu and Ohaozara spontaneously organised a reception for Umahi in his hometown on Monday, November 2, following his stakeholders’ engagements in Abakaliki, the state capital, to celebrate him as their son and express pride in his appointment as Minister of Works.
Speaking at the event, community leaders and stakeholders, including Onu Okorie, Prince Mathew and Comrade Kingsley Obini, separately commended Umahi for his service and praised Tinubu for entrusting him with the responsibility of overseeing federal road infrastructure across the country.
They described the appointment as a demonstration of the President’s confidence in Umahi’s experience and an opportunity for him to contribute to national development.
The stakeholders emphasised the need to sustain infrastructure development efforts and ensure that the South-East continues to benefit from federal investments, particularly in road and bridge projects.
They noted that poor road conditions had remained a longstanding concern for residents, motorists, traders and businesses across the region, stressing the importance of sustained federal intervention.
The residents also commended Tinubu for providing Umahi with the opportunity to apply his infrastructure development experience to national service, saying the appointment had brought greater attention to the South-East.
They pledged their support for the President’s re-election in 2027, citing the administration’s infrastructure investments and Umahi’s role in advancing road development across the country.
